Hey guys, so i am thinking of going for an 8 and a 5.5 baader hyperion for my Meade lx-90 emc 8" SCT.
The price on all the sites is 119 however they are all out of stock.
Does anyone know any retailers that arent cataloged in google who have this in stock?
In addition to these, i am looking to buy either the
meade 5000 series telextender 2x
or
televue powermate 2.5x
I was thinking the powermate is too high magnification for my 8" meade lx90, but im not too sure. Any suggestions highly appreciated.

Hey,
First of all, you may have misread the Hyperion information. The Hyps' focal lengths are 3.5, 5, 8, 13, 17, 21, and 24, with the Aspheric 2" EPs at 31 and 36.
As far as folks who typically carry them:
www.agenaastro.com www.optcorp.com www.telescopes.com
with www.alpineastro.com being the US distributor.
If stock is out, then you might check with Bob Luffel at Alpine Astro to get a sense of when what you want might become available. Bob's a great guy and will give you the straight scoop.
There may be other folks who sell Hyperions, but in the US, but I'm not sure who they might be. With their popularity, stock has been a challenge in the last year.

When I got my 8mm from OPT about a year ago, there was an order backlog then as well. Took a couple of weeks for it to clear out.
They seem to move off the shelves pretty fast.

While Scope City probably has a good reputation (I can't speak to it myself)... I can say that OPT has always given me top notch pre-sales and post-sales support.

yea kolenka you know, i have heard some amazing things about optcorp even though theyre not one of the top rated stores on google.
Im gonna give them a call today to see what they got in stock.
The only retailer ive used so far is Telescopes.com
They are probably the most popular telescope web store since they're part of a massive wealthy corporation(netshops), but ive heard some horror stories about getting broken eyepieces in the fedex, then having to wait WEEKS just to replace it.
So far all ive ordered from telescopes.com was the 90 dollar zhummel eyepiece and filter kit, and the zhummel cleaning kit. I just got it to properly train myself how to use different mags.
But yea man, optcorp looks good.

I've use OPT numerous time and have never had a problem with the company. As for the 8mm Hyperion; I own one and am very satisfied with it performance--excellent EP for the money.

Unless I'm wrong I honestly can not see buying ANY 5mm Eyepiece for an 8" Sct...unless New Jersey has much better skies then I was aware of...! that EP would give you 400X which I think would not be obtainable.
The 8 mm by itself would get some use but again most nights..actually the vast majority of nights here in Maryland 250X is pushings things to the limit ...
In my EP case the highest power EP I even carry is an 8.5 mm when I am viewing with my 8" Sct .
But I do bring along a Barlow if I do not have the Denk S1 power switch diagonal on the scope ..just in case I can barlow a 12 or 15 mm EP to get up to 300x
I have a couple of Orion Stratus EP (13 and 17) actually very nice EPs' not considering price...if you factor in price they become great buys...as well as darn good eyepieces.. Are they as good as my XW's or Pans...NO..! But..at 1/3 the price they are worth every penny and then some... Plus its my understanding that the Hyperions have slightly better coatings then the Stratus...

Wow what a scare!!
I decided to go with Optcorp.com just like many here have suggested.
Apparently if u order through this company and mention your screenname for this website, cloudynights, you get an ADDITIONAL 5% off the purchase price!
I couldnt say no to that so i placed my order on august 1st. It was now august 4, and i called. They said they didnt ship my package out yet cause they couldnt find the last 8mm that was in stock!! oh NOO!!
Success! 2 hours after the call, some girl calls me back saying she just ran all around the entire building looking for that 8mm and found it lying on one of the sales associates desk. He removed it from inventory bc some customer wanted it but canceled! and now its mine!!
So, 5mm and 8mm on route to my house today.
CANT WAIT!
Oh and Bob G., with an 8" sct, looking at objects above 50 degrees is absolutely fine. The closer you get to zenith the better it gets since there is less interference from the atmosphere.
I have seen the ring nebula and a few messier objects, in high skies during average seeing conditions. I have some less than quality zhummel eyepieces so i used those and even with them I saw some detail. Even barlowed, i was able to see the ring nebula's shape.
I suspect with these baaders it will be even greater.
400x = 50x 8" of aperture.
500x, can be used for certain applications also high in degree.
