I just ordered a Baader Hyp. 3.5mm, trying it out. new
      #2553642 - 07/31/08 11:34 PM

So after the usual aches and pains of eyepieces shopping and racking my brain over the $400 dollar EP recommendations, I decided to try out a Baader Hyeperion 3.5mm for some high-power viewing. I parted with my Nagler 5mm T6 for various reasons. The Baaders eye relief and positive reviews sealed the deal.

Anyways, Ive simply heard too many good things about the Baaders to not try one out. I made sure I got the eyepiece from a source with a solid return policy should the EP not work for me. But, being a fan of the Vixen LVW line gave me confidence to try out a Hyperion since they have many similarities, except the Baader saves me some loot.

At some point I will need something in the 6mm-9mm range and I'm going to hopefully save up a bit and look at them Pentax thingies.

So, we'll see how the Baader performs!

I hate EP decisions.. the hardest?? Spending $300-$500 each!!

I've got the 13mm and it's great.. I'm going to get the 17mm very soon too!! I was going to go with the 8mm and 5mm, but I'm going to go with Celestrons 10mm and 7mm Axiom for the 82* field.

I have my whole life ahead of me.. I can get the "best" later!

hope the focal ratio is f5 or better, my 8mm hyperion is hard to focus on my f4.8, so the 3.5 must be a pain in the *BLEEP*.

My scope is F7 so hopefully its not an issue! Like I said, its a trial thing, I have 30 days to return it should the EP not meet expectation.

If you like your Badder Hyperion 3.5mm as much as I like my Badder Hyperion 24mm you will be well pleased! I plan on getting the 13mm version in the near future.

I also have the TeleView 8~24mm Click Stop Zoom that I just love. I use it often and I get great views with it, however the 68 degree FOV of the Badder Hyperion 24mm has a little more contrast than the 24mm position of the Teleview 8~24 Zoom. If Im going out and don't want to carry several different eyepiece I take the TeleVue Zoom.

Again both are great eyepieces!

Oh NO!

Ok i dont mean to scare you, but after we had a chat here and ever since I saw that telescopes.com's baaders no longer say preorder. I decided to give them a call.

Guess what....THEYRE STILL OUT OF STOCK!

They told me notice how it says item will ship 1-15days!! They told me that their new shipment is coming on august 16th!! its still under 15 days but *BLEEP*! how sleazy is that to not warn a person that their item wont be shipped immediately.

I suggest you call them asap to get confirmation on your order.

I personally ended up ordering a 5mm and 8mm baader hyp from optcorp.com They only had 1 8mm left and actually sorted everything out for me. Great company here, not a big corporation like telescopes.com

Well, I actually cancelled my order with them over the weekend. I wasnt too thrilled about the out of stock issue and honestly, I got cold feet at the last minute about the 3.5mm being too much magnification and having too many elements for serious planetary study. I got me a UO ortho 4mm instead and I will see how that works out.

I STILL plan on getting a Baader, but more like an 8mm or a 5mm instead of the 3.5.

Ugghhh.... I change eyepieces faster than underwear these days!
