First some shots:

The business end
View of the tripod, along with my XT8
Three binoculars From left to right: 15X70 Giantviews, 10X50 Nikon Action and my grandfather's Hertel & Reuss Optik 7X50s...they're in bad need of a professional cleaning, which I have been unsuccessful at accomplishing (no one in town does such stuff), but they aren't bad for what they are.
So my eagerly awaited Giantview 15X70s came today, well packed. The tripod (Orion's Large Tritech) is a bit of a disappointment as it contains a LOT of plastic parts...whaddya want for 60 bucks, I guess? But caveat emptor: The only significant metal I can find is in the legs themselves. It's sturdy enough I suppose, even at full height, but gee, I hope it stands up to regular use.
Oddly enough I was more impressed with the binocular tripod L adapter. It's heftier than it appears online so that was a pleasant surprise.
But the binocular is another story altogether! What a beautiful unit. It comes packed in a nice hard case which can be seen in the background of the photo of my 3 binos, linked above. Focusers feel nice with smooth action.
I can't detect any significant fringing when looking at a dark light pole against a bright background of sky.
I went out before dark for a quick look at a couple early arrivals. The moon looks much better in these than in my Nikons, though I'd like to hook them to the tripod and see what a difference that makes. Jupiter shows a significant disk and I swear I can see the hint of an equatorial band. Alas, Saturn is pretty much done for the year...it'll have to wait until next year to see if I can see a hint of the rings. I'm betting that I can...
After it got nice and dark, I went out again, mostly to take in a nice ISS pass. I was unable to zero it in while the bino was on the tripod but I quickly removed it and got a glimpse. There wasn't much detail but then again, there wasn't as much in my scope at 38X as there was the last time I saw it. Then I could distinctly see solar panels. Perhaps it was pointed differently?
I tried to zero in M13 but it was basically at zenith and I just couldn't contort myself to see it. That'll come with practice I suppose. I WAS able to have a look at The Triffid and M21 and they were quite nice.
It was extremely humid out and there was a fair amount of cloud cover so conditions weren't ideal but it certainly made for a decent first light! I look forward to clearer nights and darker sites!

Hey!!! You have some very nice new binos there Sir I just had a look through a pair of 10x50 nikon Actions last week at some terrestrial objects down the street in the daytime at my local camera shop and they looked fine to me.
I had an email from a person who said the Nikon Actions were horrible after 25% out from center and I had to disagree with him because the ones I tried were awesome !!!
Maybe I tried a Japanese pair and not a Chinese pair???

How are yours???
In any event, sorry to distract from your original post...I still think you have some very nice New (and older) binos Sir.

Thank ye very kindly! I like my Nikons just fine really. I probably would have stuck with them alone if it weren't for the too-good-to-pass-up sale price on the 15X70s!
I'll probably mount them to the tripod in the next day or so and see how they fare. I can't imagine that they'll do bad at all. The moon is definitely bigger in the Orions though!! I can see central peaks in several craters, which I don't remember seeing in the nikons.
And FWIW, I've never noticed any edge performance issues with them...they're really pretty good for the 80 bucks that I paid for them.
A question about my 15X70s: I read in a post about judging the quality of binos that you should look at the reflections in the objectives and avoid ones that have one or more images that are white as opposed to the green that a fully multicoated surface should return. The 15X70s are fully multicoated, yet they show one white reflection (out of what appears to be a total of 3) which is exactly the same as the Nikons. I guess this means that EVERY surface isn't fully multicoated?

Very Nice! I just got my GO 15x70s...center focus though, as I figure I'll be using them in the daytime as much as nighttime viewing...
I'm loving the extra magnification in mine, much like you are! I'm using mine on a $20 vivitar tripod I bought at Walmart a few years ago for my digital camera....not the most high quality of tripods...but will work til I can afford a decent one.
Enjoy those "beauties"!

I almost wonder if I'd like center focus better. Oh well, I DO still have my 10X50s for that if desired.
I think I may want to get a parallelogram mount though. Having them on the tripod seems a bit cumbersome...we'll see what happens as I practice more with them...
