Hi Steve,
I have an older NS11GPS and was thinking of getting the JMI hardcase on the large wheels.

Let me know if you find an answer to your question as I am in the UK, down in Kent.

Hi Ian

I Initially placed a order with Oceanside Photo & Telescope (OPT) after emailing them to get a quote for the shipping - with shipping cost worked out about 256 GBPds which I thought was great, however after I placed my order and they had charged my credit card they emailed me to say they had made a mistake on the shipping and it was going to increase from $126 to $358. I emailed a copy of their quote and they said it was a mistake it was a new girl working there. So I cancelld the order - it took quite a few days for them to refund my credit card.

Anyway I had also had a quote direct from JMI with shipping this was $ 556 which cost me 306 GBPds placed the order on the Monday and the case was delivered on the Friday via FedEx - was able to track it's progress online. I did'nt get charged any VAT or import duty so I reckon I've saved about 100 GBpds compared to UK prices - however I would'nt go this route for something that could be a bit more fragile
such as a scope.

Clear Skies
Regards
Steve.

How do you like the case? I'm thinking about getting one in the future.

If you order it from JMI, ask - no, require - them to fit it with stainless steel hinges. This is about $50 extra (I had to send mine to them for retrofit), but the standard steel hinges don't do well in humid conditions - after spending 20 minutes trying to close mine at a star party three years ago (and having wrestled with it for months, even after dousing the hinges with lube), I had it done. Never a problem since.

The cases for the CPCs are not hinged. The entire top half lifts off and is secured with latches. Check it out here:

BTW, Expensive, but worth it. Very good case.

Thanks, Tim - I've never seen a CPC case opened. JMI solved the problem quite well - there have been many problems with hinges on older cases.

I have one of these cases. I bought it right after they became available(6/06). Because the top lifts cleanly off, it's easy to take the scope in and out. The existing wheels are fine for me, but there is an upgrade with pneumatic wheels. Might be more important for a heavier scope. I know it's an expense, but I've never been sorry that I invested in it.

My JMI case has the pneumatic wheels. They are large and soft. It makes doorsills, steps, etc. a breeze to roll over.

I have a JMI case for my CPC 800 and it is definitely nice, but I dont really have anything to compare it to. However, it addressed my concerns: Mobility for the telescope and protection while being transported or stored.

Putting the wheels on it was a little bit inconvenient, but otherwise it's fine. There are also a few eyepiece holder cutouts in the foam.

The top comes off completely (like someone else said earlier in this thread - it's not hinged); there are four latches. The lid makes for a nice table with great airflow for a small laptop as well.

Just got back from holiday to find a invoice from FedEx for duty and VAT for £ 72.00 - so at the end of the day didn't save a lot and with the current £ / $ rate it's not worth it. Very please with the case - shame that all the cut outs for eye pieces are 1.25" - if they had been 2" with a 2" to 1.25" foam reducer would have been better since I've now upgraded to a 2" star diagonal and some 2" eye pieces and a 2" 1.6x Barlow.

Regards & Clear Skies

Steve.

I don't keep my eyepieces in my JMI case. Not very handy to access them during viewing. Plus I always close the case up after I take the scope out lest it get soaking wet from dew. I do keep my finder and HC in there.
