Jupiter 08-04-08 @ 0315 UT (rather good seeing) new
      #2558691 - 08/04/08 12:52 AM Attachment (26 downloads)

Once again, I was surprised when I processed this image. Kind of like scratching off a lottery ticket and winning. I didn't expect this result because of issues with high wind and my DBK was dropping frames and the screen kept freezing up. I finally resloved that issue though after some hair pulling. I just didn't expect this because of what I was seeing on the screen during capture. Has to be some of the finest/sharpest detail I have yet to capture based on the S.S. Temperate Belt white ovals. Don't think I've caught those quite like this before. I have a few more sequences to process. Be hard to improve on this one though.

Well, I guess I can improve from this last one. This one, shot just about 3 minutes later than the one above, is actually a bit sharper. I hope my "post them as I finish them" isn't annoying.

Also, if I don't get to it tonight, I'm going to post a single raw frame. It is really just blowing my mind that I'm getting this kind of detail based on what I see on the screen. Focusing was EXTREMELY difficult and I just rolled the dice pretty much.

Here are the results from all the sequences I shot tonight. Kind of wish I had shot more. I suppose I'll animate them tonight or tomorrow.

Here is a raw frame. I can see a bit more detail while it is streaming, but this is pretty much what I have to work with in regards to focusing.

Thanks Johnny. I can't complain about the results. One complaint though is the noise during live steaming of my DBK as you can see in the raw frame. I'm assuming the DMKs are the same way? Focusing sure would be easier if something could be done. I've tried lowering the gain to focus along with the brightness of my moniter, but nothing really helps.

I find that it can help to focus using a bright star rather than Jupiter itself, then point the telescope back to Jupiter. The focal point is usually more easily visible with a star. Of course, pick a star close to the planet, not half the sky away.

Any star brighter than about 4th magnitude will usually do the trick.

Bart

Your raw frame looks pretty much like what I get with my imaging. I just cant get the final processed image to look a clean and clear as what you get. Do you have a general routine that you use to process your images?
