Perhaps we should also include the "Autoscope" by R. Genet amongst the "first primitive go-to's"!

That was a Vixen system. Not sure if that predates the Compustar or not. Uncle Rod?

I just ordered my eighth MEED telescope, a 12" LX200ACF.
(Meade purposely misspelled)
Beginning in 1995, my MEED scopes were as follows:
10" 2120 SCT
16" StarFinder Dob (John Dobson looked through this scope and said the images were "very good")
12" LX200GPS/UHTC GoTo
10" LX200GPS/UHTC GoTo
6" AR6 Refractor GoTo
8" LX90LNT/UHTC GoTo
16" LightBridge Dob
12" LX200ACF/UHTC GoTo (recently ordered)
I have never found any problems with MEED telescopes, and my new LX200ACF (a Richey-Chretien design) should give me the best visual images ever!
I have also owned three Celestrons, three Discovery PDHQ's, a 16" NightSky and even a 20" Obsession!
I sold all of my earlier MEEDS and other brands to make room for newer telescopes...that's all!

I've owned well over 50 Meades, only the three 2045's 4" SCT and a Meade 7" ED were complete dogs when it came to the optics.
All of my many LX200's and older Meade scopes were all excellent.

Gosh, you're asking me to try to fire up the 1980s brain cells!
'Bout the same time, I recall.

I think the sky sensor came out around 1986.

I've owned well over 50 Meades ============================================================ And when you add all the other brands, it makes a lot of telescopes. This makes you the Wilt Chamberlain of astronomy.

My count in 48 years I have owend 3 Meades and 2 Celestrons all have been good scopes. I have owened 5 others telescopes so 10 scopes in the last 48 is not to bad..
