CG-5 Problem
      #2562219 - 08/05/08 04:46 PM

Last week I finally got around to aligning my scope and putting it in hibernate mode. The other night I "woke" it up with no problems- Slewed to Vega using "named stars".

I went back into the house to get something and when I came back to the scope, Vega was displayed on the controller but I couldn't input anything new or use the directional buttons.

I decided to 'reboot' and when I did, I noticed the sound of the RA drive motor idling- It had been off.

I don't understand what happened here?- there wasn't a power outage. And how can the controller be 'on' and the drive 'off'?

Thanks,
Rob

How do you hear the sound of a motor that is off?
When you say it has a sound of idling it probably was the sound of it tracking Vega.

Perhaps one of the axis locks loosened up?

Well, it wasn't making any noise until I unplugged it and plugged it back in. You know, that kind of whirling/ticking sound.

I'll check that. What bothers me is the controller seemed to "lock up" like and old computer. I couldn't enter an object or move the scope with the arrow buttons.

Tomorrow night might be clear. I'll try again.

I agree...that sounds like a computer problem.
