Quick CG-4 AC adapter question
      #2562569 - 08/05/08 07:41 PM

I bought the dual axis drives for my CG4 mount, it has worked pretty well. I am starting to use the mount for some autoguiding and figure it will burn through batteries even faster than before.

I found a 6V 1A ac adapter in hopes to use for powering the drives, but when I checked the output of the adapter (without any load) it is reading around 8.8V. I am wary of hooking it up right now to see if it will work in fear of burning the motors out....Would it be OK to hook it up even though it is reading 8.8V? or would the voltage drop a bit when connecting it to the motor and be in the 6V range?

The voltage is always higher without a load. As soon as you put the motor load on it will drop.
If you check a 12V car battery it reads 13.8V until it has a load.

I figured last night that it was probably because it wasn't under load. I hooked it up to my hand controller and it seemed to work fine. Now if I can keep those pesky clouds away...
