Jupiter moon transit 8-4 new
      #2561344 - 08/05/08 09:29 AM

I too this last night while there was a transit of jupiters moons. My first attempt ever at imaging the king. My setup is an old late 70s C8, and the meade camera that came with the 70az walmart special. These were taken last night the first one around 10:30 (Central standard Time) and the other one around 12:30 using rigistax to do the processing.

anyone intersted here is a link to the raw video of the second image: http://s232.photobucket.com/albums/ee183/bouncergriim/?action=view&current=testc.flv

The first is a 1 min avi with 10fps
the second, I can't recall exactly, but it came from the video link.

Nice shot! I was so excited when I got everything set up last night and saw that there were not one, but TWO moons ALONG WITH the GRS visible. It was perfectly clear with about 3/5 seeing. I went inside grabbed my laptop and my webcam and checked out StarryNight while waiting for my the temp in my scope to equalize some more. From StarryNight I counted that I had an hour to capture an image with some good combination of the two moons, the moon shadow, and the GRS. I plugged in my SPC900NC and glanced up at the sky sure enough it was completely clouded over

I'm a bit jealous but I'm glad someone got the shot!

I am working on cleaning up the shots a bit more but this is my first foray into registax, so anyone out there who wants to try to tweak my images or use my video is welcome, as long as they post the results. Oh and this was taken in the suburbs of Dallas/Ft. Worth, Texas. So I am very pleased with this early attempt at planetary astrophotography.

Here are those shots reprocessed with wavelets. Still trying to figure all this out, again help would be appreciated.

I think those came out pretty nice , just color is off a bit and focus but not by much.

I still havent get as good of a Jupiter as that yet , I know you said cost was a concern but I think you could do better with a SPC900 that I think are like 40 bucks plus a 20 buck 1.25 barrel.

You might want to try imaging through the C8 since the planets with a webcam can be done without any need for tracking and the apature should help.
