So im doing a detailed comparison of these two barlows, as I believe they are considered to be the two best on the market right now.
I am looking to get either a 2.5x powermate or 2x telextender as 5x is way too high for my telescope to handle.
Take a look at these images:

Is it just me or does the televue barlow seem to exhibit a small amount of color distortion and glare??
I do not see these same effects present on the meade telextender pictures.
Also, it seems to me that the televue powermate pictures seem a little bit blurry, while the meade telextender looks sharper.
Take a close look and compare.

I would only trust my own eyes under the night sky, and not someones daylight photographs. Also, there are certainly quality 2 element Barlows that will equal or exceed the optical capabilities (though not the comfort factor) of 4 element Telecentrics.

In your pictures I see the Televue ones more blurry. But I use extensively my Powermate 5X with my TV plössl 20mm and my RKE 15mm in planetary and lunar work and I have not noted any color distortion or glare or less sharp images until now.

Not to nitpick, but a Powermate isn't a Barlow...

In that case, neither is a meade telextender 
But regardless of what we call them, both barlows and these "NEW AGE" telescope focal extenders all perform the same function just with varying levels of success.
Just because a powermate isnt a conventional barlow design doesnt mean its not a barlow.
Thats like saying the baader hyperions arent real eyepieces because they use a different modular optic system than most other eyepieces.

Also guys, please note!! i did not make this review. I am simply linking it to this forum for all of our fellow hobbyists to see.
There are many people asking about a comparison between these two products here and I am simply trying to make their lives a little easier just as many others have done here for me when I was in need of answers.

Well, admitting that this is not really the topic of the thread, just a brief aside, "Barlow" is a guy's name, same as Abbe and Erfle. It's really just a question of whether to pay homage to a certain dead guy or not.

You're right. We can call it anything really, only reason i chose to use barlow is because more people will understand that word than saying a focal length extender.

In any event, I like my Meade 5x TeleXtender. I can recommend it. It definately outperforms a cheaper 3-element 5x "Barlow" or whatever that I have. I get a clean image with very little off axis glaring, which makes it nice for lunar work. But my favorite assignment for this piece is double and multiple stars. It's heavy and very well made. I like the rubber grip around the top barrel. And it's threaded for 1.25" filters, if you think you would need to use one.
