Can someone tell me if you can use a standard Vixen style dovetail mounting bracket on a "Televue Gibraltar 5 Alt / AZ mount?
I don’t know if it would work with the Synta OTA's that mainly use this type of dovetail mounting.

I think you need the televue/vixen mount adapter (AVT-1011)to attach to the plate that comes with the Gibraltar 5.

It's possibe to bolt a Orion/Synta dovetail bar to the Gibralter cradle. Use a 1/4"-20x1.5" thumbscrew to go through one of the outer holes of the G5 cradle and into the threaded 1/4" hole of the dovetail bar and drill another 1/4" hole in the dovetail bar for a 1/4"-20 bolt and wingnut to go through the other outer hole of the G5 cradle.
I've done this in order to mount my 120ST on a Telepod head which should have the same 3 hole arrangement as the cradle in the G5 head.
