M27 with faint halo
      #2563379 - 08/06/08 07:10 AM

To my surprise, parts of the faint outer halo of M27 appear after a processing the image from last week with a highpass filter. Not very bright, but one can see it :

M27 with halo

Tech Pan hypered 20 minutes, Royal 200 45 minutes, combined in PS. 12"/5.3 Newtonian. No filters used.

Nice -- this just shows how sensitive film really is. I don't think a DSLR could capture the faint halo in just two subexposures, especially witout a narrowband filter.

Thank you for your comments! I try to go even a little bit deeper next time. The combination Royal and Tech Pan seem to be very good.

I don't know why I don't stop by the imaging forums more often. I'm always delighted when I do. This is another good example. Nice work Ralf!
