WUTS report new
      #2561050 - 08/05/08 03:26 AM Attachment (6 downloads)

All, The Weekend Under The Stars (WUTS) star party near Foxpark, WY was a success. There were 202 registered attendees. We had 3 excellent nights, Wednesday-Friday, with a fair night on Saturday. This star party is sponsored by the Cheyenne Astronomical Society and is usually held mid-July to Mid-August new Moon weekend, officially Thursday thru Saturday night. Foxpark is southwest of Laramie, WY and is near the 92" Jelm Mountain Observatory infrared telescope. There is usually a day tour of the observatory. Foxpark is a private resort area nearby the forest service winter snowmobile staging area we use. There are two large open fields for observing. This is a primitive site with a pair of forest service privies on site. The $10 adult registration fee goes for the the extra facilities. This small fee may go up next year due to the new park service reservation fee plus insurance they got slapped with this year. Registration is onsite.

The photo was taken Saturday evening at sunset. The red auroral was caused by the sunset lighting the rain shafts. Most of the participants missing in the foreground left due to a negative Dark Sky Clock prediction. We had at least 3 hours of observing after the clouds cleared.
That last night was a rest for me after the previous 3 all night imaging, dusk till dawn! Enjoy!
Joe.

Tom, here's another one. This is on the northern rim of one of the fields.
