I still experience 'mirror flop' with this particular scope, and I need a photo of the insides if someone has them to see what I can adjust.
I would be even more grateful if someone has a service manual for this particular scope available for copying.

Hi John,
You won't find a service manual. You might find some pictures, although I don't know where. I apologize for not taking pictures when I had my IM715 apart. You're on your own when you take it apart, so be prepared to do some serious collimation. It's not for the faint of heart.
I will suggest you buy focuser and attach it to the rear of the Mak. Feathertouch and Moonlight sell the excellent focusers and William Optics sell a very good focuser at a much lower price. The attachment shows my 715 with the Feathertouch focuser

Are you sure you facing mirror flop? ...have you considered meniscus flop in place of mirror flop? ...meniscus flop is so common with IM scopes because rude shipping but it is a childs game to fix that

Well maybe one day you heard a metallic sound when rotating your IM OTA and you suspected something was wrong... in some place.... and maybe you pointed your scope to a star to verify collimation and initially it was OK but when you pointed it to another star in a very different angle you heard that metallic sound again and then when you re-verified the collimation it was wrong.... you knows about this?
Well that was my experience with my IM715 some years ago and i was 100% sure the issue was the primary mirror so i opened the OTA... but found no issues at the primary ...then i verified at the meniscus side (after removed the cosmetic black ring) and i found one of the three screws had not the proper pressure, fixed that screw and bingo! ... no more rare... strange... primary mirror sounds... the collimation issue? bye bye...
Of course this is just one possibility

I have a similar issue occurring with my 6.5" Intes MAK. I checked the meniscus as per Israel's helpful instructions but the clunking sound still continues.Try checking the retaining ring for the secondary mirror, this ring holds the secondary to the meniscus. Check link read bottom paragraphs.I haven't tried this yet, but this just might be whats going on. My MAK makes this clunking sound when pointed vertically and when placed flat.

"First night images were excellent and I was very happy with my purchase. I noticed a clanking noise when I turned the scope 180 degrees. This was traced to a loose retaining ring that holds the secondary in the corrector plate. I snugged down the threads to just finger tight and touched up the collimation. Skies were cloudy for most of that spring - I couldn't get good observations of Jupiter and Saturn, so I've waited a couple of years to write up my assessment."

Thank you gentlemen!
I'm very curious as mine doesn't clunk yet, but in September I will be driving about to a remote dark sky site in New Mexico and traveling over washboarded dirt roads for many miles. In case a clunk develops, I want to make certain that I have the right tools to remedy it in the field. It would be a tragedy to drive so far for dark skies and be defeated by equipment issues.
Just a couple of questions to make sure I understand the two issues. Israel, it sounds to me as if you needed to tigten one of the three retaining screws on the ring that attaches the meniscus to the OTA. It looks like this would require a phillips head screw driver. I have that covered in a multi-tool.
Julio, it sounds from the linked article as if the author removed the meniscus assembly and manually tightened a retaining ring attaching the secondary to the meniscus. Is that your reading as well? If so, I'm assuming that the same screw driver would allow removal of the meniscus assembly.
Regards,
Jim

Jim i wouldn't remove the meniscus if i were you, save yourself the possibility of something being misaligned.I would remove the rear section, primary lid.The author possibly simply reached in and tightened the ring by hand, a measure i would emply USING FRESH COTTON GLOVES OF COURSE. I'm going to check this issue today, getting myself some gloves after work.

Not the meniscus. It is very well secured with three clamps in a separate lens cell that fits over the main tube assembly and is held in place by six set screws.
The problem only occurs when trying to focus, not once focus is made and the scope is moved to another target. Once focus is made, there is no change, even after more than an hour of falling temperatures.
I just started tearing down the scope, and wanted to document it (I want to put Humpty-Dumpty BACK together) but the batteries need recharging. I'll post as things develop.

Hello Jim,
You need to remove first the black cosmetic ring... then you have access to the meniscus and the screws for the meniscus, look in this picture i unmounted all that
Of course you dont need to unmount meniscus... you just tighten the meniscus screws when required

Julio,
Believe me... bad idea to make changes to primary mirror, meniscus is so easy to be fixed in position but primary mirror is more difficult task

Providing resilient shims (cork, rubber...) around the miniscus to center it and eliminate play as they do in SCTs would probably be a good idea and easy retrofit, no?

Israel, did you blacken the edge of the lens or did it come that way?

Julio, are you seeing any optical effects from the clunk you hear? Mine has a clunk initially, but it was from the camera piggy back adapter that came with the scope. You've probably already removed that, but I thought I'd mention it just in case.

Jim

Hey Jim, i did remove the piggyback camera holders. I haven't been able to confirm if this knock causes misalignment of the optics. The skies have been extremely poor down here in South FL lately. When things clear up ill go out there and see.I did notice one thing about my primary, approximately 2mm from the edge of the mirror are small roughened corners. I don't know if this affects my image in any way, but i just noticed it today with a flashlight.
