VC200L BACKFOCUS new
      #2493385 - 07/01/08 12:24 PM

Hi any help about the backfocus capabilities of the VC200L?
I will buy the Taurus III offaxis guider and i want to know if are
compatible?
i will use it for dslr imaging(eos10d) and i wonder if the backfocus is enough
The Tracker III requires about 4 inches of backfocus.

Back focus on the VC200L is pretty good. I find that I have roughly three inches when focused at infinity using my SBIG STL series camera. Still, it sounds like the Tracker III uses up an awful lot! 4 inches is a ton of space, and I'm not at all certain the VC200L could handle that much. The back focus on this scope is much closer to three inches than four.

Thank you Jared i guess will use the vc200l together with the william optics 2" EXTENDER( http://www.williamoptics.com/wo_shop/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=26_43&products_id=80) so i wiil be able to have the backfocus needed fot the tracker.

Hello, Phedias

My 1994 model VC200L and the Taurus Tracker II (repeat, Mk II) did not allow me to come to focus with a Pentax KM 35mm film SLR. I was approximately ¼ inch off with the focuser fully racked in. That is, I did not have sufficient in-focus.

Cheers

Dennis

I don't know about the backfocus of the VC200L, but why not go for the mini Taurus Tracker. It is much shorter.

When you wrote that the Taurus III and DSLR required about 4 inches of backfocus, I assumed you meant that the distance from the imaging plane (near the back of the DSLR--there may be a mark on your camera) to the front of the Taurus III was about 4", so the focal point of the telescope would need to be about 4" or more from the end of the draw tube with the focuser fully racked in. That's the normal way to measure backfocus, I believe--the amount of space between the focal point and the back of the focuser with the focuser fully racked in.

If this is indeed what you meant, then your problem may be the opposite of what you think it is. You may not be able to rack the focuser far enough in to reach focus. That's not a problem you can solve with an extension tube, obviously.

Sorry I can't give you a definitive answer.
