ive seen these devices mounted on top of scopes and was wondering if thy are used for locating or just pointing and identifying objects. i seen a bracket advertised that holds the scout and fits a orion or vixen dovetail base. sure would be nice if it works like digital setting circles to locate objects i would get one in a new york second. thanks, don

it works both ways, to locate as well as to idenyify celestial objects.
But mounting on a scope (unless non magnetic tube is used) might have magnetic interference which will make the skyscout less accurate.
