After some lunar sketching on August 5th, we headed for Sagittarius. Neither of us had ever looked at the "Bug Nebula". The C8 with the MallinCAM Hyper Color did pretty well. We projected the image this time so a friend could watch also, although one loses a bit of detail when the image is projected. When one studies the object, the array of colors is actually quite extensive. It was good night to give thanks.

Linda and Roland,
A beautiful and colorful pair of sketches of this impressive planetary nebula. I have never had a satisfactory look at this planetary but now that you have posted this great pair of sketches I see what I am missing. Well done kids.

Linda and Roland,
Great choice of target (never seen it before) and stunning 'performance' of both of you.

Thanks, Rony. It is pretty small to see detail with a medium-sized scope using an EP. The camera saved us on this one. We will try again with the 12.5 Dob...both EP and then camera...just to see what we can see. Of course, this is dependent on weather and opportunity. Roland

Goofed!!!! I realized way-too-late that we did NOT use a ProDob video camera with our setup on this object. We used a MallinCAM Hyper Color camera, which is a little less sensitive but has color capability. Otherwise, the sketch would have been in B&W. Hope we did not lead anyone astray on this. Roland

Very beautiful!! I saw this elusive nebula earlier this summer and I was barely (and I do mean barely) able to detect it however I was able to make out the irregular shape, which you have depicted quite strikingly. Thanks so much for sharing and giving me the idea of going after it again in hopes of seeing more than my first trip there.

Roland and Linda,
Nice use of color--the cam gives a great view of these faint fuzzies.

It does Michael. Why don't you join me one night and give it a whirl? Meet 1/2 way in the mountains somewhere? My wife heads to California for two weeks so I have lost my sketch partner but still want to sketch. You are welcome. Roland
