I'm a relative newbie but I do appreciate good optics (an infliction from my terestrial photography interests). The 13mm Ethos is a special beast and I am VERY glad I added this to my collection. Very impressive on all fronts. It totally rocks in my C9.25 and holds up well in my AT80ED as well. This has become my main eyepiece.
That said, it sounds like I am one of the few individuals that decided to not get the 8mm Ethos. I love the wide views with the 13mm Ethos. However, my higher powered viewing is almost always focused on planets. As such, the wider view is of less value to me in this range. I went with a Pentax 7mm XW (replaced an 8mm Hyperion that really struggled in my AT80ED). I have been very impressed with the Pentax.
That said, if Televue were to come up with at 20+mm Ethos, my 24mm Meade UWA and perhaps even my 50mm Tak LE might be in trouble.

Stephen, For me, the 13mm hits the magnification/exit pupil sweetspot, so it was definitely a no-brainer. But the 8 was a question: It provides 228X in my 12.5". Was that a magnification I'd use a lot? So I looked at my usage of my 9T6 and discovered it was used a lot for planetary nebulae, double stars, globulars (especially the small faint ones), and individual small galaxies and galaxy groups (like the Hicksons), and planets. So would I use the 8mm in my scope or would it sit unused in the case? Well, its first night out told me the answer: Yes, it would get used. In fact, it's replacing my 11, 9, and 7, and it does so well at high-resolution-on-axis work (like close doubles or planets), it just might replace my 5mm too. I am beginning to think I just don't need the high power the 5mm yields. I could see details inside some planetaries that I couldn't see with the 5 (due to seeing differences at those powers), so why bother with the 5? So if the next Ethos is a 5, would I get it? Probably not.
But was the 8mm a reasonable purchase? For the 12.5", yes. It requires a lot of infocusing when used as a 1.25" eyepiece, though, and I *barely* (maybe 1/32") saw focus before the focuser bottomed out. Others may not be quite as lucky.

I highly recommend the 13 Ethos. I'm getting ready to get the 8mm Ethos also. By the way the 20mm T5 is also a great lens and one of my favorites.

Just got the 2" Powermate today at SE Camera, and said to Tony (one of the proprietors): "This is my last eyepiece purchase - I've got everything I could possibly need now". But as I turned to walk away, I noticed my toes had been crossed when I said it.

I've barely glanced through the 13 Ethos, but quality time with the 8 Ethos in a 20" f/5 Obsession assures me the Ethoi are winners. The Ring Nebula @ 318X with the central star saying "Hello" was inspiring to say the least! My 5(4.9)-8SW needed at least 380~400X to see the central star, though it was more solid @ 518X than the Ethos. Neither the 8mm nor 5mm Hyperion had sufficient contrast/clarity to discriminate the central star at all! In the meantime the 20T5 is a keeper - even if I do eventually acquire a 13 Ethos.

I never thought i'd sell my 20T5, but it sold yesterday...
With my current setup it just didn't do anything that the 13E didn't do better, swapping between the two didn't feel like I gained any TFOV (it does, just didn't feel like it). The 20T5's a true great eyepiece IMHO, but TeleVue just raised the bar.
I see what y'all have been raving about now

YMMV, but there's times I'd want the extra 23% larger TFoV the 20T5 offers. Besides, the 4/3.48mm and 2/1.74mm exit pupils with 1.55/1.34° and .77/.67° fields the 20T5 produces in my scope are a sweet spot I'll not relinquish lightly!

A month ago I wasn't planning on getting the 13mm Ethos because I was waiting for a 20mm version but today I received my 2nd 13mm Ethos for my Denk II and it's fantastic.

My old set: 31/22/17/13/11/9/7/5 Naglers. My new set: 31/22 Naglers, 13/8 Ethos, 5 Nagler. From 8 eyepieces to 5. And frankly, the 13 and 8 spend 95% of the time in the focuser. Those are incredible eyepieces.
Don, I have the 13E and the 8E as well and use them plus a finder eyepiece almost exclusively. I consider them great eyepieces. However I have had one surprising experience, comparing the view of Jupiter through a 13E with a Celestron 8SE carefully collimated, versus the view of Jupiter, same time, same place, through the same scope, with a Denk Binoviewer and 10 and 20 MM Tele Vue plossles at a comparable magnification to that given by the 13E. The view was noticeable sharper to may eye and to the eye of the SE owner, with the Denk plus the plossls, than it was with the 13E. On the other hand the 13E gave a wonderful view of M13 and of M27, through the SE.

I can believe that. I spend about one half hour a year looking at planets, and about 200 looking at DSOs. Plossls are VERY good planetary eyepieces.

Wait'll you see a 31 Nagler or 31mm Celestron Axiom LX in a Paracorr --over 4lbs in the focuser(with the Axiom)! In comparison, the 8mm Ethos is small and light.
