Accounting for differences in brightness (and resolution bump) the 8" is much more pleasing. Stars are more substantial, compared to the softer (borrowing Patricks terms) C6. Also the scope cools down a hella faster.
Took the 8" out last night - should have taken the C6 out too for comparison but I was having too much fun - had a great night. Even in my light infested neighborhood I picked off a double handful of Messiers, Jupiter and the moon low on the horizon. My previous experience was last Saturday with the C6 in dark skies and no trees, where I gave up after a half hour of trying to pull it together.
I don't know, maybe it's psychological. The C6 being the middle child isn't as interesting as the ones on the end. But, there is a different quality to it that stands out from the others.

It is interesting. I have looked through a couple of C6 scopes and never really thought anything looked inferior.
The 6" Nextar with the single arm seems really nice, like the mount seems a bit oversized even.
You can bet I will very closely scrutinize the next one I get to look through.

From your sig line it looks like you have the C6 on a Voyager alt/az mount. Is that correct?
While that looks like a nice grab and go setup, have you tried the C6 on a goto mount that has tracking? The reason I mention it is because the C6 has a relatively long focal length which makes finding and tracking objects manually quite a chore. I never feel satisfied when using my C6 on my alt/az mount. Tracking with a dob or a widefield instrument is relatively easy compared to starhopping with any SCT.
Just a thought. I've found that difficult ergonomics of an instrument can sometime affect the way I feel about the view I'm getting from it.

Patrick - agree with ergonomics, they're very important to me in the field. I'm not going to buy a motorized mount for some time yet though.
I got five minutes last night with the moon before the fog rolled in. This time I used the stock Celestron eyepiece that came with the scope, and was happier with it. This is the longest focal ratio I have, maybe that's what I'm struggling with.

Hmm, well there's definitely some operator error, I was mixing up a 25mm and 35mm eyepieces in the field. That accounts for much of the trouble, the 35mm simply doesn't work well with this scope. OK it's a keeper then. But, the 8" still kicks its butt.
