DSO Photo Entries through December 15, 2004
      #257010 - 11/19/04 05:32 PM

Welcome to the Cloudy Nights Reader’s Gallery Submission Forum. Each month, we ask Cloudy Nights members to submit their best DSO photos in this thread.

For your photo entries, please provide a description that includes:
Your First and Last Name;
Date of photo (can include the time);
Description (title) of the image;
Relevant photo information (exposure length and equipment used).

This is important! If you don't supply ALL information, we won't be able to use your photograph!!!!

Please note: due to copyright issues, all photos MUST be original (If they aren't then you will be banned from this section of the forum!).

To facilitate the judging we respectfully ask that you not enter comments in the photo thread. You will find a commentary thread for the DSO photo entries. Thanks and good luck!

Name: Eric Africa
Date of Photo: November 8, 2004
Description: M31 (Andromeda Galaxy) grey-scale

This is my first serious attempt at M31. Capture and processing details below:

Camera: SBIG ST-8XE
Scope: Borg 76ED at f/6.6 (no reducer)
Mount: Takahashi EM200
L: 27 x 5 minutes binned 1x1

Images acquired and reduced in CCDSoft. Combined using Ray Gralak's Sigma Reject following his online help.

I am currently working on a color version of this (current version here: http://members.nuvox.net/~on.aunt/DSO/M31Color.jpg). I have a few gradient issues with that version, so I will hold off on officially submitting my LRGB until I'm happy with it.

Enjoy, and clear skies!
Eric
