Hi Was wondering if anyone's got any experience with this....till now, i've used a IR blocker as sort of a CCD protector but I bought a baader IR Pass filter which I hear my get some good cloud detail. Thanks for any input!

Baader IR pass 685nm gave me a very good image of Jupiter and some detail on Ganymede: http://www.astrovox.gr/forum/album_pic.php?pic_id=3904 I think it's the best for beating the seeing.

I have used one with my Philips PCVC 740K but have never been able to see a difference in image quality. Maybe it's a lack of experience or the cheap camera.

Thanks for the replies. I'll see if i can get out and do a comparison on a filter wheel. Thanks!

Hi Elias
Did you use the IR pass in combination with an UV/IR block filter? I guess this is the way to do it? You want a well definded IR spectrum to pass for the image while blocking the far IR that would make your image unsharp?
@John I guess that the IR pass does only make sense with a B/W camera. A normal colour webcam uses an additional Bayer matrix with RGB filters.
Cheers Chris

I haven't tried Chris. Things just got a little hectic this morning. I haven't had a chance to see what exact wavelengths the 2 filters block. If they overlap...it blocks everything Might be interesting to see the results if it allows a very narrow bandwave to pass.

No, i didn't use a UV/IR cut filter (it would make the image very dim), but the camera chip is quite insensitive in the far IR spectrum: http://www.theimagingsource.com/products/cameras/sensors/icx098bl.pdf
