Plato at the Terminator
      #2571463 - 08/10/08 02:26 AM

I went out planning to sketch Archimedes, but got distracted by Plato. I'm sure you know how that happens.

At the top of of the drawing, Mons Pico casts a dagger-like shadow toward the terminator. The Teneriffe mountains add texture between Pico and Plato.

The curious feature that grabbed my attention was the Batman-like shadow on the floor of the crater. This indicates an irregular rim to the left, but I couldn't really see that directly. I'll have to return under different lighting conditions, and see what I see then.

Tom,

An excellent observation of Plato along the terminator. This crater is always interesting to observe. Under excellent seeing conditions you may detect craterlets over it's floor. Thank you for sharing it with us all.

Carlos

Tom,

Very nice indeed! I enjoy the way you managed to capture some of the finer elements of this lunar landscape.

Tom,

Why I thought I was the only one that ever changed his mind during sketching. Don't you hate being distracted by those show-off features.
Wonderful sketch of our battered celestial neighbor. You have capture many fine features and given us a 3-D view.
EXCELLENT!

Frank
