I am looking at getting the above mount. If I get the dual axis controller instead of the goto, wouldn't I still be able to have goto funtionality from something like cartes du ciel. Or as an alternate I have a nexstar 5se, could I use the handset from that in the mount? I believe the two mounts are identical except that one comes with the hand controller.

Yes, you are able to Goto from CdC. You just need a converter from 232 to TTL level signals as the hand controller will not be in between. E.g. Shoestring Astronomy is able to provide you with one. Then you need also Ascom drivers from eqmod group.

Buy EDDIR at

http://www.store.shoestringastronomy.com/products_eq.htm

Get the ascom drivers at

http://eq-mod.sourceforge.net/eqaindex.html

The 5se HC does not work with the Atlas mount that I'm aware of. You can hook up a wireless gamepad to slew the Atlas.

There is a thread in this forum with EQMOD links, whick can allow a computer running a planetarium program like CdC to act in place of the hand controller.

Check this thread for EQMOD and EQDir links in my post near the bottom of the thread's first page:
