You're right, but I own a Nikon 14x40 StabilEyes, one day or another I will post something here. Now I can only say they don't reach IMHO the optical level of the Canon's, and hadn't understood if the "navy" compensation works in mine ...

Not to get off topic, but I prescribe a Chase-lounge or reclining lawn chair for those observers with bad backs like myself.

My brand new canon 15 X 50 IS binoculars (Amazon $729) are outstanding in the daylight but exhibit terrible off-axis coma on stary night skies, I'm suprized that I have not heard of this trait on any of the astro forum web posts. I am wondering if its just mine, and I have written to Canon. I would not accept a telescope with such poor optical performance. Can anyone chime in on their experience with this?

Sorry to read that you have a duff pair, because my experience of Canon IS binoculars is that they show no coma and are pretty sharp most of the way out to the edge of the FOV.

Get a replacement pair under warranty and hopefully you will be alright.

I agree with Bruce, you should get a replacement pair.

The seller for that price $728 plus shipping was Markus Audio Video but is not listed anymore at the product page. I emailed couple time with them about the extent of the warranty. Can you tell us how many warranty registration cards you had in the box (was there a card for an extension of the warranty for US customers ?)

There was something in their profile on Amazon (when you cliked through) which gave me a pause not to jump on the deal.

If your purchase is below 30 days, you can hopefully return it through Amazon, or alternatively, you can go the warranty route, but check that Canon would cover your specific purchase.

dtc,

Customer service number for Amazon is 1-800-201-7575. While you can't expect the edge sharpness of a telescope (it takes a very well designed and expensive eyepiece to remove most aberrations in a fast optic - and you would need two in a binocular), you are entitled to be satisfied with your purchase or else return it.
