Another pipemount, but one with the advantage to have the eyepiece all the time at the same height. Not exactly the same as a true Springfield, but also a very mount. Not easy to make and here again this is not a first time mount.
Disadvantage of this mount is the need of an extra counterweight to keep the scope and mount in balance. Another disadvantage is the need for a slightly larger secondary mirror compared with that same Newt with a regular mount.
To avoid vibration care must be taken to make the upperpart of the scope (the part that holds the weights) as stiff as possible.
Alt and Az motion are done just the same as in a regular Pipemount, with the pipe's thread. Ballbearigs could be used to replace these treads, but you'll need a lathe to make some housings for these bearings.
Usage : 1- Small to moderate telescopes. 2- Reflector (mostly Newtontelescopes). 3- Could be made transportable.

Why not just put the focuser on the other side of the tube and get to use a smaller secondary? - j
-------------------- 12" Green Goblin (trusser w/Protstar secondary and OWL refigured primary)• 6" f/5 Eero2 ball-scope • 6" f/5 Frankenscope • Garrett Optical 10x50 binos • Edmund 8" yoke-mounted red-tube reflector • Edmund 6" GEQ red-tube reflector (on loan to Dad)
Gone, but with lessons learned:
Skyquest XT8 • NexSTar 8i • Eeroscope 6" f/5 ball(sacrifice was not in vain) • Vixen ED80sf • Edmund red-tube 4.25" f/10 • Edmund Astroscan
Facts are stubborn things.

I like that modification. In addition to a smaller secondary, it will get the observers legs further away from the pier, making for a more comfortable observing experience.
I built a folded refractor along these lines. I had some problems with rocking and vibration damping (due to my execution of the design), the concept was excellent in terms of observing comfort. The eyepiece was always at the same height, and balance issues from heavy eyepieces were eliminated.

Maybe a little OT, but here's Dave Groski's (and Tom Harding and Matt Considine's) Modified Springfield Telescope restoration at Stellafane.
