This is part of my planned trip east of the Big Muddy River. I am going to visit with Tom Clark (my editor for years at Amateur Astronomy) and Rod Mollise and any others who might show up. Looking forward to great week. Then I will make it north to see the Air & Space Museum at the Smithsonian. Ought to be a great time.
See you there; Steve Coe

I know of at least one, and he'll be giving star-party discounts. I've been trying to get away from this guy for years, but just can't seem to make the split.

Howdy all;
I purchased plane tickets yesterday. I will fly into Tampa on Oct. 23 and then rent a car and drive north to Chiefland. I will be staying a week with Tom and Jeannie Clark. Then I will return to Tampa and fly to Wash. DC to visit the Smithsonian for three days.
I am looking forward to a fun vacation and meeting many of you folks and viewing the night sky.
Clear skies to us all; Steve Coe

The registration deadline for the Chiefland Star Party has been extended from 9/15 to 10/6.
For Mark: I've been told there will be several vendors at CSP, but can't disclose (at the moment) who they are. I probably will be able to in early OCT.

I'm a volunteer/staff guy for the CSP; if any CNers have questions, I'll be onsite early afternoon of THUR 10/23. There's a possibility of lapses in wi-fi coverage, so be patient...
Since I'm parked next to (at PSSG '08) one of the two sponsors of CSP, I can get answers to questions about which I'm not already familiar, so PM me or post here until 10/04.

Rusty, This is my first star party. I live in western palm beach county. I have read the rules at least 3 times. What else should I know? I plan to be there Friday morning 10-24-08 and taking I95 north most of the way. I noticed in particular the rules about laptops? Would a red presentation cover(the clear plastic) suffice as a screen cover? Starry Night also has a "night mode". I may just use my star map and play it safe. I hope everything works out and I am able to be there. I sent my Reg Form on 10-06-08 so they should have it by the 9th. Thanks for your feedback, any and all tips are appreciated. We plan to use a tent to keep costs down. I just hope I can fit everyting into a 4-door Ford Escort...OMG!

Red plastic/acrylic/rubylith is fine, and preferable to "Night Mode" on the screen, since the task bar doesn't change.
I-95 to FL Turnpike to I-75 to US 27 (Ocala) to US 27A (Williston) to US 19 (Chiefland). If you need supplies, there's a Wal-Mart Supercenter just north of the US 27A-US 19 intersection.
See you there!

Anyone from here going?
I'll be there on Saturday morning it looks like. I'm in a small Four Winds travel trailer, look me up. My set up includes a small beach umbrella sticking out of my imaging table so I am easy to spot

With this(my first post), I would like to say that as a newbie to astronomy, I look forward to meeting you guys at Chiefland this nextweek. After reading YOUR posts, I get the sense that my son and I are going to be in great company. Clear Dark Skies to All!

Welcome to Cloudy Nights!
I'm headed to Chiefland tomorrow; I have a boxy white Barth motorhome with blue stripes - and Canis Major and Canis Minor of my avatar. Most likely, I'll be at the north end of the field, between the triple wide and the steel storage building.

BTW, wi-fi will be available, but it's by satellite, and there are limitations for daily useage. Folks using the wi-fi are expected not to download or upload large files. Surfing, email, and downloading small files are generally OK. It's suggested that you tell your emailing friends to refrain from attaching large files while you're at CAV. The CAV Wi-Fi Policy should be read beforehand if you expect to use the services.
Two automatic updates that can consume large amounts of bandwidth are Windows and Photoshop.
For WinXP, go to Control Panel, open "Automatic Updates", and click the bottom choice ("Turn Off Automatic Updates"). I don't use Vista, so you're on your own there.
For Photoshop 7 (I'm not familiar with the CS series) cick "Edit" on the top toolbar, click "Preferences", then "Adobe Online", scroll the "Check for Updates" space, and select "Never".
If you have trouble connecting, or wonder about which wi-fis are legit, ask me.
