Super/Great Polaris confusion on what's current?
      #2576160 - 08/12/08 10:05 AM

Hi all,

I currently have a SP circa 1992. I'd like to upgrade to a new GP but I am confused as to what is currently offered for sale in the US. I have seen GP, GPE, GP2, GPDX, GPD2 etc. mentioned in the forums, but only see a GP2 and GPD2 now at the Vixen site. Are some of these names no longer made or sold with that name?

thanks,

If I'm correct, the chronological order for the mounts are:

Polaris (original Polaris mount)

SP, SPD (Super Polaris series)

GP, GPD (last gen GP)

GPE ('economy' version of GP, sans polar scope and some other items?)

GP2, GPD2, (current generation GP mount)

SX, SXD (I'd consider SPHINX a separate line)

I *think* the Photo Guider versions existed since the GPE era.

fwiw I have a SS2K PC (ROM ver. 2.01, which should make the motors being MT3?) on the SP at the moment and I'm wondering if this SS2K will work on current GPD2 mount ...

thank you, that's what I was suspecting: that the GP with the number 2 are now the only current version.

You can still get the GP-E, but I'm pretty sure the only difference between that and the GP2 is the color.
