Simon, I am glad you can see no difference between it and a TeleVue - you will be very happy with it then.

Folks. Lets not let this turn into what the OP is questioning. Why the fuss, not continue the fuss. And more importantly, lets keep it friendly.

IMO the underlying cause of all the fuss is one of conscience. What did that telescope cost others for us to have it at such a cheap price?
I don't feel it is a question of quality, more one of morals.

Lucita has a good point, though. That IS the type of comment that usually starts all the fuss. I'm not saying it should, but it always does. Look at how Lucita responded to the statement that the EON mechanics are as good as TV mechanics.
People have favorites. And when someone starts saying your favorite is no better than X, it invariably gets your back up and you start insisting that X couldn't possibly be as good. Not much later, the mods step in before WW3 and order is restored with a thread lock. I believe the biggest problem is that there are certain people (and i'm not trying to be insulting) that are gear snobs, and if you start insisting anything could come close to comparing to their top end, 3 times as expensive gear, they're going to step in real quick to defend their purchase and the reason they spent so much more money. That's really what it comes down to in the end. I spent $3,500 for this scope and don't you dare say that your scope, that only cost $2,000, is just as good because there's no way it could be.
And i am in no way stating that the cheaper optics do rate as high as the TV's and AP's of the world, but stating that something is "good" is a subjective statement. So when one person says my EON 120 is just as good mechanically as the TV102 i used to own, to that person, this is a truthful statement. For them, they see no difference. For another, there could be a world of difference.
Until there's only 1 telescope maker in the world who holds a monopoly, there's always going to be a "who's better" argument. Since i don't think we're ever going to see that particular day, one just has to get used to the arguments and learn not to be quite so defensive about your gear.

Well, as an additional reminder, we don't allow political posts, so let's not have this thread degenerate into a political discussion.

Have you seen an EON in person?
Your comments are condescending and imply that I'm a fool, and that "anyone" can see so.

Hi Simon, your telescope sounds nice. I have never seen one or looked through one in person. Perhaps one day soon. Hope you enjoy it and congrats.

There is certainly some of this attitude in the discussions that get out of control, but the other position that is taken up is almost a reverse "gear snob" . . . Why would you waste your money on X when Y is just as good and only costs 1/3 the price.
Maybe it is not the intent of the poster, but I can see how the owners of the premium equipment feel like they are being called stupid for wasting their money.

And the new R/C helicopter I just got? Guess where that was made?
You've got to be careful using the term RC.
Yep, I hear they are going to start calling them "Advanced Wire Free."

Chineese ED´s are impossible to beat in price/performance ratio! EONS are SUPER BANG for buck, but everyone doesn´t seek that...some seek the Ultimate performance and pay´s for it too!

Jason -
I think you are correct, I have seen that happen many times also - see the recent exchange between Lucita and Simon for an example.
I think people have a hard time being objective (no pun intended) about their personal telescope sometimes. Refractor lovers are a passionate breed, and will defend their choice sometimes as much as they will defend their religion or political leanings.
But I also think many times folks are just trying to be helpful. When someone posts something like "I have this much $$, should I buy this brand telescope", folks chime in offering alternatives (i.e. buying a used premium, etc) because they think in the long run it is a better choice - I think they are just trying to be helpful, but some people get offended.

Exactly true! I tend to like higher end equipment, but can't afford it, so i end up buying nothing. THat's probably rather dumb of me, but that's the way it is.
Oh well....when i win the lotto..it'll be apos for everyone. How's that? Oh wait...someone will start telling me the apo i sent them isn't really an apo, won't they?
