After using the Baader zoom this past Friday I found it to be a rather great piece to have to eliminate carrying so many EP's.
Jupiter was more clear than I have seen with my fixed EP's. The DSO's were very clear as well. I was pleasantly surprised with this EP all the way around.
The zoom has a click stop feature with a twist up eyecup which helps as well.
The FOV is avg. to those fixed EP's and that was a concern. Some folks said the zoom EP would suffer in the FOV area and the clarity would suffer but that was not the case.
The EP also comes with a 1.25" to a 2" adapter which is a nice feature as well.
I would rate this piece as follows on a 1-10:
Quality: 10
FOV: 7.5
Clarity: 8
Overall value money: 9
Highly recommended for the money I paid which was $215.00

Yes, very good zoom indeed. Maybe you could rate it higher in FOV if you compare against others zoom and no fixed eyepieces.

I just goot this eyepiece for my nexstar 5si but the thumb screws on my diagonal rub on bottom of the ep. Any suggestions???

Agreed. This is one of the strong points of the Hyperion Zoom - true - the field stop is fuzzy at 24mm with about a 47° FOV, and there is little gain at 24mm over 20mm, but from that point on the field stop is sharp and the AFOV increases to almost 70° when you hit 8mm. Center sharpness is excellent and the edge is remarkably good for a zoom.
While premium, fixed EP's are always going to be better at any given FL, if one is going to go for a zoom, you'll be hard pressed to find a better value.
I especially like using this on viewing sessions with visitors. When an object moves out of the FOV, it's nice to just quickly zoom out, reposition, and zoom back in again!

Jimmer136 you need to get a longer screw for the diagonal... the Hyperion zoom is a weighty brute and needs to be well secured. Scopestuff sell suitable replacements, or you can just see if you can pick up the right bolt from a machine shop.

Vixen 8-24 mm zoom EP is one i am considering for around $160.
Can anyone compare the optics of this, with the Baader Hyperion 8-24 mm zoom EP

It`s my knowledge that Vixen, Meade, Celestron, Televue and Orion Zooms 24-8 are the same manufactured by the same Japanese company.
I had an Orion Zoom (actually two for binoviewer). They were good, but the Baader was sharper, more contrast and more AFoV. I think that worth it the extra $.

I find it to be MUCH BETTER than the TV 8-24. The zoom settings are easier to adjust while viewing and the settings are nearly parfocal, unlike the TV. No contest, the Hyperion wins hands down.
