Hi all
I think this is the place to ask.
In my vacation I've read two books, The Sky Is Your Laboratory and Observing and Measuring Visual Double Stars.
Many of the calculations are explained in the books, but for my part it would be nice with some software to help out.
For startes I've been using Iris to calculate star positions and the moving on to spreadsheets.
So can anyone help with some reference to software that can do astrometry?

Hi Lars,
I use two software programs for astrometry of double stars:
- Astrometrica: http://www.astrometrica.at/
This is shareware, can be used for free a few days and after that the registration costs 25 euros. It is a great software, it compares your image(s) with the star catalogs you choose (UCAC2 is recomended for astrometry) detecting the position of the known stars and deducing the position of any other in the image. It is very used for comets, but it also very useful for doubles. It requires CCD images including at least a few stars and it is not suitable for webcam images that include only the pair.
- reduc: a double star-astrometry specific software very widely used. Suitable both for CCD and webcam images. It uses some images of doubles with known data for calibration and then "reduces" the data for double stars in the other images obtaining the separation and position angle in each case. It is free, it is only necessary to send an e-mail to Florent Losse -the author- asking for the current release. The e-mail address can be found here: http://www.astrosurf.com/hfosaf/uk/tdownload.htm#reduc
I hope this helps.
Cheers,

Hi Rafael
This can certainly help. I've contacted Florent Losse and download the trail version of Astrometrica.
Thanks for the help.
