I bought two of these adapters from ScopeStuff (#SMSA) last week and neither of them would screw onto the back of my new Orion 127mm Mak. The threads on the back of the scope were much finer than the threads on the adapter. I wonder if Orion changed the specs recently?
I'm tempted to try this adapter from Orion, but I'm almost positive it's the same part that ScopeStuff is carrying.

Dunno... My local brick and mortar shop has carried those for a long time, and they are produced locally, by a machinist that does absolutely impeccable work. They are also quite innexpensive. I just thought that it was kind of nice that the chinese COs finally noticed the Mak user's wants and needs for certain accessories.

I'm going to order one of these from rother valley optics in england. Does this mean that we can now use focal reducers and 2" eyepieces ok? Just i've heard of vignetting.Think i've spelt that right!

That is strange. Mine screwed right on. I also drilled and tapped mine for a set screw so it wouldn't unscrew every time I removed the SCT diagonal or EP holder. I suppose if Orion, or Scopestuff doesn't know if there were any changes, it wouldn't hurt to let them know.

I got one a while back from a local store, it's originally sourced from antares. Works great, allows me to use a 2 inch visual back, along with a .63 reducer on the back of my 127mak. I bought it so I could get a reducer inline easily, and it works great for that.

To avoid the 2" adapter issue get a HiOptic (AstroZap?) 152 which has a standard 2" thread on the back

I bought one for my orion 90 looks nothing like that one cost me like $45 when I bought it. once again I wait too long before selling things.
I will have to have a look at it and post a pic. i wonder if the 127 has different threads then the apex 90 I had.

What do you have to buy in order to attach a 2" diagonal to that adapter?
*** Edit ***
Never mind, I found it. To me it looks like to turn the Mak into a wide-field 2" instrument isn't inexpensive.
$160 focal reducer
$20 2" Mak Adapter
$21 2" SCT Visual Back
$120 2" Dielectric Diagonal
----
$321
It's a very interesting idea, but the cost is a little too high for me right now. And I wonder how effective the mod would be. It seems like trying to turn a narrow-field, slow scope into a faster, wide-field scope will end up introducing problems somewhere. (Distortion from the focal reducer? Vignetting?)
