Remote collimation resources new
      #2581154 - 08/14/08 02:17 PM

kfredrick asked for the sources I used for remote collimation parts on my 22-inch Dob on another thread. I dug up websites for the companies I ordered the motors, belts and timing pulleys from.

I based the whole thing on John Vanderbrugge's article about remote collimation in the November 2005 Sky & Telescope, which I recommend to anyone interested in adding remote collimation.

I used DC Gearhead motors from Jameco electronics. They were 24 RPM 7500 g/cm motors -- the strongest they had. These are plenty strong for a 22-inch mirror, and I think would handle as large a mirror as might be found in an amateur scope. They're not very expensive. About $23 each.

I ordered the belts and timing pulleys from Stock Drive Parts / Sterling Instruments (SDP/SI). They have a cool online calculator that can be used to determine the precise parts of your application.
