...to the 10x42 or the 15x50, should I expect a more sophisticated stabilization gizmo? Or would it mainly be a question of more aperture?
BTW, by "upgrade" I really mean "get new binocs in addition to the old ones." Because I love the 10x30s and won't be getting rid of them.

I have the 8x25 IS,10x42L IS, 12x36 IS II , 15x50 IS and the 10x42L & 15x50 have a 5 minute timer on the IS button when you press it once. If you plan on keeping the 10x30 IS then it's a no brainer to get the 15x50 IS.

Same IS technology. The 10x42 is also waterproof if that is of use to you.

Thanks for the replies gents. If the IS is basically the same I can hold off for a while. At least until I buy my new scope, heh heh.
The 5-minute timer sounds like a nice feature, but not enough to make me pull the trigger.

Same IS technology.
Are you sure about that? The stabilization on the 15x binoculars seem much more aggressive than on the 10x30s. More of a "lock on hard" feel. Also seems to chew through batteries faster. But I've never studied this carefully, so I can't vouch for either fact.

Tony,
By same technology, I meant no more than the use of vari-angle prisms. I wouldn't doubt that the gains in feedback circuitry may be different for different magnifications and capture angles. But I suspect that only the Canon engineers would know those details.

I use the rechargeable sanyo Eneloop batteries. They are 2000mAh AA batteries I first used in the camera flash. They hold their charge longer and have more capacity.
