Another Outer Planet
      #2581521 - 08/14/08 04:47 PM Attachment (28 downloads)

Currently, the brightest object in the sky, besides the Moon, is the huge gas giant, Jupiter. This planet is easily found, especially now, as the Moon has been doing a dance around it, in Sagittarius just East of the Teapot's handle. On Monday, I was able to get a nice view of Jupiter with both binoculars and telescope. The wonderful thing about the planets is the Moon doesn't drown them out. I didn't plan on doing any sketch on Jupiter but decided that it would be a nice change of pace from the faint fuzzies and the following night I sketched Neptune (more of a finder sketch than art though). So I guess I've begun a pattern here and Uranus (currently residing in Aquarius) will be next and once the Moon subsides I guess a dwarf planet Pluto should be a good one, (this I would guess would be another finder sketch). Anyway, hope you enjoy the Jupiter sketch and I just read a post in the Beginner's Forum about what to expect to see from a 6" scope. Here's an example and should be pretty much what you'll see. Enjoy

Frank,

Beautiful! It looks like a royal appearance of the King and his attendants. Yes dancing with our moon is a good description.

Frank,

Nice work on the Jupiter sketch. I enjoy it very much.

I look forward to your next target.
