Rick, thanks, I hadn't seen that link before. I haven't joined anything yet. I've seen that there's a club down on my side of town that meets out near Clear Lake.

There's going to be a Star party at Moody Gardens on Sept 6, but I have to think that the light pollution would be just about as bad as possible there and it's only open until 10pm.

I got the hyperions today. Wow, they're enormous. I know that they had to be bigger, but just really didn't understand how big. My previous EP experience is limited to a couple of Plossls which are very small. These Hyperions could be used as weapons. I had to take them out tonight despite the horrible seeing, high temp and humidity, and thin, high clouds/haze. They provide a sweet view, but my poor little refractor was straining under the weight. They are almost as big around as the refractor, hahahah. I can't wait to get the new scope. Yeah, the weather is going to be poo, but I guess that's to be expected.

Well, any first impressions?

Chris

Edit: Ha -- looks like I was a little too jumpy with the reply button.

You'll enjoy the Hyperions, I had the 24, 17 and just sold them (I got some new ones with green letters) I still have the 8mm and 5mm, but the 17mm was a great ep and provided great views. You should plan on the star party out in Columbus in Sept. It's a good time with a lot of folks from all over the Houston area. PM me some time and maybe we can get together... And if you want a good deal on two more Hyperions... let me know.
