Just to add, i do not consider TV plossls as cheap EPs. They are great plossls and perhaps a smaller number of elements does not hurt in some situation.

On planets, my plossls are sharper than the naglers or pan (i compared the pan 15 and plossl 15 this spring and there was a difference).

Plossls still have a place in our EP case

Thank you for your observations, Francois. I have noted in my Nexstar 6 SE that you can quickly run out of light when you start stacking glass elements, in my case using barlows. I am sure the Pans and Naglers excel in larger aperture scopes and fully justify their higher costs. It would be interesting to see a comparison of Baader Hyperions and Televue Plossls in a 6" or 8" cat when viewing planets and faint fuzzies. Same price range but differing fov's and number of elements. Both get rave reviews here.

Clear skies,
Tom

I'd like to throw in my 2 cents (seen many times elsewhere): Good eyepieces are good eyepieces! My eyepiece box is filled with Naglers + 2 Meade S4000 UWAs, collected over a period of years. I had it made: the best of the best!
That is, until I got a set of Brandon eyepieces.
These are so dramatically better in contrast and sharpness, that since I got them last January, I've hardly used the Naglers at all. A whole box of beautiful, expensive glass, sitting unused.

So, money spent on top-quality eyepieces is NEVER wasted, no matter what your scope. Better in a fast scope = better in a slow scope. If you're really serious, don't spend any money on "these are probably good enough" eyepieces. They're not! Get the best you can afford, and scheme for better down the road. It really does matter.
