Intel has offered some info on the forthcoming 45W Nehalem processers. The most dramatic revelation is that they'll be LGA 1366, meaning the current LGA 775 mobos won't be compatible. Adaptors, apparently, will be available to mate the Nehalems to the current crop of LGA 775 mobos, but we all know how that tends to work...

The Nehalem will have different architecture; it should be faster in apps written to take advantage of the enhancements. Is it worthwhile to upgrade from a Penryn (like the E8500 Core 2 Duo) to a Nehalem? Probably not, since it requires a new mobo.
