Tripod Clamps? new
      #2586928 - 08/17/08 04:24 PM

Not sure this is feasible ?
I am searching for options with replacing wing nuts and screws on a wood trippod with tripod clamps for adjusting legs. Has anyone found clamps that work?

Do you have a pic of what you're trying to replace? Just by your description, I'd say that you should check out McMaster Carr...

...type what you want into the search bar, and all kinds of stuff will pop up. They've got a ton of knobs and clamps and such, you're bound to find something there.

Hope this helps.

thanks Katodog,
Wow! Lots of clamps and other stuff too! I should have been more specific. The clamps I'm searching for are like the ones found on a panoramic or gibraltar televue tripod. Not sure the same clamps are sized to work with my tripod, which is similar to a vixen wooden tripod.

Clamps such as what you describe are not an off the shelf item. These clamps are made specifically for a particular application. If you have a vise, a good hammer and a welding tourch, you can make what you need yourself. You can buy all the materials you need from McMaster-Carr.

It would be a lot easier to help you if you showed us a picture of exactly what you need. Go to my website and tell me if the tripod clamps that you see there would help? www.alsastro.com

The picture is indeed helpful! If you have not gone to my web page, do so now and look carefully at my leg clamps. You will need one of them for each leg positioned where the bottom most screw and wingnut is located on your tripod. Additionally, you will need a brace for each leg fastened to your center telescoping leg segment and located below the spreader (where you have your tray). This would allow you to adjust you tripod height at any point of the center leg's extension. You can do this yourself and I will be happy to coach you. If you would like to take me up on my offer, you can contact me by email directly from my web page.

thanks Al,
Yes, I did go to your website and see the clamps and wonder if they or others you have might fit. I will contact you for more information in the near future.
Bob
