Carousel for observer, scopes, and siderostat?? new
      #2590760 - 08/19/08 02:24 PM

I was thinking about the siderostat option for my 26 inch flat mirror. Would this work? Instead of trying to track the sky all in one mechanism in the siderostat mount, split it up dob-wise. That is, the mirror itself would have an altitude mounting (in a fork, etc.). This would be set on a carousel/lazy suzan type system, offset from the axis of azimuth rotation.

Counterbalancing the mirror and its mounting would be the scope assembly (of whatever type) on the opposite side of the carousel. Perhaps also mass (water?) could be transferred from the center when an observer was also on the carousel to offset his weight, allowing him to ride along instead of having to walk during tracking.

And of course motors, computer, program.

Has anyone every done something like this?
