i've got an LXD75 and every once in a while i hear a little "tick" noise coming from the mount, doesnt happen much, but would that sound be the "backlash" that i hear happens with mounts?

Backlash happens because the gears that move the telescope cannot mesh tightly (or else they would bind up). When the direction that the scope is being driven changes, there is a short delay while the gears take up the slack before the gears can drive the scope in the other direction.
I don't hear any "tick" noise when my scope finishes taking up the backlash, but I guess it is not impossible.

Try adjusting the balance load on the mount to be slightly out of balance. There are some that have mastered the technique of putting the load out of balance one way when the OTA is on one side of the mount and the other way when the OTA is on the other side. Keeps the teeth in contact. If the load is wrong, as each tooth leaves mesh the load can cause the un driven gear to jump back to touch the driven gear causing the tick. I used to get it on my LX200 mount until I put balance weights on it.

That's the advantage I've enjoyed for 30 years. My drive uses a nylon worm that drives an aluminum toothed gear wheel. What a pure pleasure it has been to use.....no slop or backlash ever! Mike
