I've often wondered: Is it better than Brillo?

Just throw 'em in the dishwasher. Gentle cycle of course.

Seriously, I've enjoyed this thread as my optics need some serious cleaning. It's very dusty in the desert and the dust won't come off with a blower. Is a camera store a good source for a brush to get that stubborn dust off?

Like Seb and microbes, I've been using the Zeiss wipes for years with excellent results (after bulb blowing and a soft brush). Haven't seen any trace of damage and I hold on to my oculars Forever!

Find out what brush is included in the dr clays complete cleaning kit, and get it. It is the largest brush i have seen offered for telescopes, and it has an angled tip, so u can get into those really tight areas.

If i didnt buy the entire kit, i would go to loews or home depot, or whereever i can find that extra large woosters brush.

Here it is:

Astronomics also gives CN members discounts, not to mention giving us CN!

So we have optcorp.com and Astronomics, those are the only two places we should all be shopping at.

I originally only ordered 2 baader hyperions from optcorp.com only because telescopes.com was out of stock. I didn't really like telescopes.com, the tech support and sales people had no clue what telescope accessories are. I would ask them what do you think of this item or that one, and they would tell me only good things about all the products, even if the item was trash quality. I called optcorp to confirm availablilty of the 8mm and 5mm baaders, and they had only 1 8mm left! Great luck eh? well anyways, i told the guy i am on cloudy nights forum, and he said oh in that case write down that information in the comments box, you get 5% off; I was like what is this discount for? he said because you are part of the free CN website.

2 Weeks after making my order, I get a large envelope in the mail from optcorp, i looked at it thinking hmm probably an advertisement. I opened it and saw a foldable pamphlet, and inside was large folder paper, with a glued on plastic credit card on it. I looked at it thinking whats this? It was the OPT - Rewards Lifetime Membership, saying that i am now a member of this opt rewards for the rest of my life!

I wondered how i got into this club...so i called optcorp. I was speaking to the general manager of optcorp.com (ocean side photo and telescope). He said that they are not allowed to advertise discounts of any kinds, because of the restrictions and rules set by the companies (meade, celestron, televue, etc). He said this is why they discreetly send customers who are part of this forum a free lifetime membership to their rewards club.

I was pretty surprised and very impressed. You don't usually see companies going out of their way for certain customers like that. 5% discount can add up to a lot if you end up buying a new 2000-4000 dollar telescope, and don't forget you still get all those nice free 600 dollar bonuses like the ones that come with meades.

SUPPORT GREAT STORES!!

By the way...you said Astronomics also gives CN members discounts, do these stores ONLY give these discounts to CN for free? or are there other forums that get this privilege? Aside from optcorp and astronomics, are there any other telescope retailers that give these discounts on most items?

I can't speak for other stores, but Astronomics, on top of providing us this wonderful website absolutely free to us, also gives CN members the discount, as a thank you for being a member.

You may click at the top of the page for more information on the Astronomics discount.

Wow, that claim of 100,000 telescopes is pretty impressive That's quite an achievement.

Alright, im sold. Ill send some funds towards astronomics on my next purchase, they are in Norman, OK so thats actually closer to new jersey than optcorp (california). Maybe shipping wouldn't take 5 days ground?

Sorry optcorp, ill come back to you once i give an equal amount to Astronomics, gotta spread the funds around.
