It's too bad the Zeiss 8x40 Deltar ultra-wide angle binoculars were not the Zeiss Jena Deltarem 8x40 with 90° AFOV.

The Deltar is the individual focus version. The Deltarem is the central focus version. Both date from the 1930's. I have had a Deltar for over 20 years. They have the very wide field, but image quality drops off rapidly in the outer portions of the field. The eyepiece looks like a standard orthoscopic, but the inner surface of the eyelens is aspherized. I believe that Koenig was the designer. The Zeiss aspherizing machine is discussed in detail in Twyman, long our of print, but present in big, older technical libraries. There are more modern machines to aspherize. I prefer some of the WW II designs and postwar types, particularly for night use.
