A very pleseant surprise! new

Tonight I went to a large park, in my city, which is up on a big hill. From the top you can see the whole east and south parts of a city of 1 million people and the view is quite spectacular. I took my binos and planned on observing the moon and Jupiter and taking a look at the night time city. Well right as I was setting up my tripod I saw explosions on the horizon and so I took a closer look and there was a large fireworks display about 5km away (I could just hear the big bangs in the distance) so I sat and watched for 15 or so minutes until it ended. It was great! What looks cool with the eye looked stunning in the binos. It turned out to be the USA team of the globalfest competition. I guess it goes to show you will never quite know what you're going to see when you head out.

Sounds like you had fun in Calgary on the weekend.I came down from Edmonton to visit some friends this past weekend and experienced the fireworks myself.I brought all of my bins with me to enjoy what Calgary has to offer with the mountains being so close.
