Easiest way to get the 16'' GSO mirror new
      #2587736 - 08/18/08 01:23 AM

Hi guys,

I was wondering what is the easiest way to get the 16" GSO primary mirror for my ATM project. Of course, I am aware about the quality issues but I guess this is reflected in the price...

So, any suggestions? Shall I wait until one pops on astromart, or there is a reliable source of these mirrors?

Of course, any other source for 16" primaries of the same quality/price would be fine, too.

Cheers,
K.D.

You could try ordering from the source

guan sheng optical

12" Green Goblin (trusser w/Protstar secondary and OWL refigured primary)• 6" f/5 Eero2 ball-scope • 6" f/5 Frankenscope • Garrett Optical 10x50 binos • Edmund 8" yoke-mounted red-tube reflector • Edmund 6" GEQ red-tube reflector (on loan to Dad)

Gone, but with lessons learned:
Skyquest XT8 • NexSTar 8i • Eeroscope 6" f/5 ball(sacrifice was not in vain) • Vixen ED80sf • Edmund red-tube 4.25" f/10 • Edmund Astroscan

Facts are stubborn things.

I'd talk to my closest GSO dealer about it.

While you're at it - maybe you could also ask about their 8" R/C OTA:

Just thought it was interesting,

There is a dealer in Germany who has these mirrors in stock

http://www.telescope-service.com/ATM/optics.html
just scroll down to the 16" mirror set, which is the GSO mirror.

So I guess GSO is offering these mirrors also separately to their dealers. I would check with one of the GSO dealers in your country.

Thank you all,
Seems I'm directly contacting them - we'll see what will be the outcome.

Of course, the other option would be grinding it myself, but perhaps this is something I'll do further on.

Ah, if only there was enough time for everything...

A friend recently bought direct from them and it all went smoothly.. It took 3 days from memory to get to australia
The mirror itself was around $900 and frieght around $120 or so..he was surprised to find a 3 " secondary was included.

Their page, which I just visited for the first time, also says : Any custom made parabolic mirrors should be welcome!

I dunno how much they would charge for that, though.
