Rate my Rig - Vixen SXD Plus ??? new
      #2587268 - 08/17/08 08:08 PM

Ok I sold my LXD 75 and am buying a Vixen rig

Looking at the SXD Mount

And what tube?? I am torn I want to do visual and deep space/planets so jack of all trades.

I have come to the conclusion of that not happening so...

I am planning on the VMC200L and a 80ED and a 350D XT

Sound like a set up that will work??

Thanks for the input or slap on the head to knock some smarts into me if I am all wrong.

God Bless America,

Shawn

I looked at your photobucket nice stuff.

When you say modded what exactly are you doing to the cam?

Thanks alot,I appreciate the kind remarks!!!
Modding is when you take the IR/"hotspring" filter OFF the imaging chip...
Basically allows the chip to have all the sensitivity in the wavelengths that the CCD/CMOS is capable of..(especially -Ha-)
I did mine with a little help from this site HERE (this site does IR conversion which allows ONLY IR to pass to the CCD,but this was a great tutorial to help me take my cam apart for the removal of the stock filter)

Cool, Looks like that would ruin my camera for daytime photos so I will forgo that.

But I made the plung today. Proud owner of a Vixen SXW w/ VMC200L

No it will not ruin your camera for daytime photos, you would need to set a custom white balance. You will love the Vixen mount. I have been using a sxw for almost two years now. These were taken with a Meade sn6 and self modded 350d.

Congrats on the purchase!!!Lookin forward to a first light report!!!
As regards to modd cams,Bob's right.A custom white balance works(so I hear) Or if you mod the camera with a Clear replacement filter from Hutech(for perfect autofocus operation) you can use a filter like the X-nite CC1 for correct color balance
Not trying to persuade you to do mod your cam...just want you to know that you can still use it(with the right eq.) for perfect daytime shots!!
These were taken with my modded cam(and the CC1 filter):

good to know. I will hold off a bit being that the camera is going to be for the wife too.

But I got everything set up last night. I a Street light that shines into the back yard not a dark sky site at all.

But.. Still Jupiter looked great! the Accuracy was right on when it came to the goto fucntion. (after I figured out I had +8 instead of -8... )

Moon look sharp, very happy with this scope and mount. I had a 8" Lx90 and this is for sure a step up from the meade celstron line. not to mention the pain wedges are.

I picked up a im2600 and a im2750 case from storm cases and its a great fit.

I will post some pictures soon. PLus I am headed to Mt. Pinos as soon as the moon goes new.
