I'm in the process of buying one used (about six years old). Just wondering. To get all things straight: I'm talking about the ones they used to sell with the LXD55/75 mount.
Many thanks in advance!

Just look at the ring around the front and it will say what coatings it has. 6 years old may not have UHTC but the pervious generation of coating.
I use a scope without coatings and the only difference I've noticed is that stars bloom faster in photography but hey im not a scientist looking for asteroids or doubles and that effect kinda looks nice on pictures

My new (used) OTA is from the LXD75 series and it has a UHTC lable affixed to the tube and it says "Ultra High Contrast" on the rim of the corrector plate. This scope is just a year or so in age.

Yes, my older (bought about two years ago, now when they cleared out the last of 'em) LXD55 also had the label on the tube and on the ring of the corrector plate.

Thanks for all the answers, guys! I didn't see any reference to UHTC on the rim around the corrector plate, so I'll just assume that it doesn't have UHTC coatings. On the backside of the scope, however, there was a label which said "Multicoated Optics Group".
Does UHTC really have much impact, by the way?

I read somewhere where Meade claimed a 15% improvement over non-UHTC, but I haven't used my scope enough yet to draw any comparison.

From what I have been told, the UHTC is noticeable when imaging with CCD camera but hard to see visually. One advantage of the coatings is that they are harder and protect the optics a little more than standard coatings.

Yeah, MCOG is the pre-UHTC era.
As noted by others, visually, you're not likely to be able to detect a difference. It may make a difference in photography and resale value.

No. There are a few white OTAs Meade sold in the early-mid 90s (on various GEMs) that do not have UHTC, having been made before it was introduced.

I do not belive the one sold with the LXB500 mount or whatever it was called had UHTC either.

The real impact of UHTC coatings is probably fairly small. They're nice coatings, but not essential.

Well, yeah, the LXD500 (and 300) is a "various GEM"...

Guess I missed that in your post. When I saw GEM, I was thinking the GEM series scopes they sold on the LXD650/750 mounts.
