I can finally see here that the Titan is quite a large mount. What a great setup! There appear to be vibrant spheres growing in your tree. We have no vibrant sphere bushes here!

Thanks Mike, That photo was taken in the dead of winter here in sunny (and burning) California. Sometimes I wish things would cool off like up your way (vibrant spheres or no)!

I can hear that Atlas all the way to Mandeville begging for a bigger scope for it. You're going to enjoy that mount!

oh boy do i know that! dont think im straining the mount with a little 80mm by any means. i certainly dont need the finder scope on it with the go to capabilities of the mount. its on there to help with the balance of the mount! the counterweight is as far up as i can get it. i'd say its a slight over kill right now, but all in due time.

Hi.
Here's a pic of my Tal Klevstov 8" F10, being carried by my Tal EQ head(biggest of Tal heads) on my 5ft steel pier. Not exactly grab n go !! Inside for a service 'n' paint.

Andy.

This is my current project, a pre yard sale find. It is an early (~1993) Astele 150 AT mount with serial number 0004. It has an 8 inch brass worm gear assembly and is built like the proverbial tank. I am installing a stepper motor driver and the preliminary tests are good. I've never seen one like this before, I should be keeping this one for quite some time.

Here' a shot of my Atlas EQ-G with the 8" pier extension attached to my 35ish year old Edmund 4" diameter cast iron pedestal. The Edmund pedestal came with a heavy duty EQ mount which held my homebuilt Newt with an 8" Cave mirror which I'm still trying to find as it's lost somewhere in my parents house. Might make a dob out of it.
I switch between an old C8 and my new Astro-Tech 127EDT, which is now used the most.

Pretty dull here - heres my 'pimped' HEQ5 mount.

Pic on the left is as delivered. Pic on the right after a few bits added. First off I painted its index marks for its scales red ( white gloss undercoat and two coats of a deep red paint to the same color as its DEC collar ring ). Just to snazz it up a bit. The silver fitting screws and allen bolts have been replaced with black versions to make the mount darker and meaner looking - I couldnt get black screws that fitted the RA,DEC and counterwight locking levers so I enamalled them myself. The red markings plus the mount having no silver fittings apart from its setting circles made it look cleaner.

I also added the astrodevelopments altitude and azimuth knobs as the Synta ones aren't great.

Its a good mount - very stable - but it weighs a ton.

Later on I'll add GoTo at some distant future point.

Nice re-do!

Here's my old school Cave Observatory Series mount. I'm trying to figure out how to install DSCs as the old analog versions are a wee bit inaccessable.
But they do look cool.

Hello Myles

Excellent set of altaz mounts, congratulations.
BTW how do you find the Manfrotto 410 Geared Head and what scopes or binoculars do you mount on it?
I have a Porta and a Synta SkyTee altaz mounts and I am thinking of buying the Manfrotto 410 with the 055XB tripod for quick setup of WO80ED and/or 15x70 Ultra binoculars.

Your comments will be appreciated.

Thanks and regards

Jeff...I just acquired a mount that looks similar to yours..but am not sure it is a Cave. It has nearly 3" shafts, and a counterweight the size of a football.

It has a Buyer's ring gear drive and is on a 11" steel pier.

The saddle for the tube rings is over 2" long.

I will post images as soon as I get home.

It's massive. How big did Cave make their mounts?

Here's my mount and setup including the cheapest guiding setup known to man...

It's an EQ6 Pro, with a skywatcher 4" f/9 refractor, and an ST80 knockoff for a guidescope. Note the custom guide scope mount!
