Does anyone know a way of locking the mirror on a C11 without sending it off and spending $1000's?
Thanks,
Jon

Not sure what you mean? If you're shipping it, just run the focuser all the way clockwise so it pulls the mirror all the way back in the cell.

Jon, the only way is to take the OTA apart and install locking bolts with pads to hold up against the back of the mirror. There are several sites which cover this procedure. I do not know of anyone you could send it off too for this to be done.

Jon, I too have been looking for a way to lock my CPC1100 mirror down. I have found this locking collar here for the C14, but no such animal for the C11.

Steve,
The focuser lock may, or may not address the issuses of:
- Mirror flop as you cross the meridian?
- Loss of critical collimation with change of scope elevation?
The locking collar made by Software Bisque, (linked in my previous post), actually immobilizes the mirror and prevents these problems.
You then focus with an external focuser.

My Primary mirror of my C 14" is locked in place with a collar, I adjusted the mirror so I can use a Moonlite focuser in the back of the SCT for Visual with diagonal and photographic work. It took a while before I had the right locking distance set, remember moving the primary mirror 1/8" or 1/4" to the front (with a washer or so ) moves the focus in the back out with inches/ feet !!!!!! It is not linear as you thing it is. I tried it many times, taking the primary out over and over again and now I have the exact position pinned down ! For now the mirror ia getting re-coated by Alcoat because I had some smudjes and fingers on it while doing so, but I will have a great scope when all is done ! See my post:

Freddy,
I'm not able to see how your mirror is locked. Can you point me to a picture #?
Thanks,

Sorry I was looking at the HUTEC link... and it seems that my mirror platform indeed misses a part (threaded focus rod!) My SCT is really not an usual one and I did a lot of remodeling on it..... In Pic #6 and # 7 you'll see a black metal ring that holds the mirror in place on the central sleeve, now in the back I have installed bolts that comes out the back of the SCT and screwed them down with a nut. Inside the tube I added 3 washers to achieve proper focus for my Moonlite focuser. Now the whole mirror is locked in place and bolted down by the nuts on the back. It does not move at all ! I wish I had that focuser threaded rod so I could install the HUTECH divice ! I need to update with more pictures as the newly coated mirror comes back.

Thanks for the replies.
The Mirror locks need to be ajustable to stop the focus issues Freddy had (for example once an image is located, the mirror is used to focus then locked to stop mirror flop, then small amounts of ajustment are done with the focuser).
I do know of some people who have done this themselves but there are problems, one of the main ones is a pinched mirror. So I do not really want to do this myself.
Optic Wave Laboratory (woden optics)will place locking systems on SCT's as part of their more advanced upgrade servicing but it is not cheap, I may just have to save up and smile at the wife.

HEY JON:
Another way, which I used after my first star party with my new CPC 1100, was to return the telescope in exchange for a new Meade 12" LX200ACF, which HAS a mirror lock, enabling the use of an inline Crayford focuser and completely eliminating primary mirror shift by locking it in any position.
In addition, there is never a cord wrap issue with the LX200 series, because the control/connection panel is always stationary with respect to azimuth rotation.
These were important considerations to me, which is why I went back to an LX200, my third!
