I am a relative beginner to CCD imaging. This month I began using the DSI III color camera by Meade. I have a 14" Meade LX200 SCT-GPS. I have read the manual carefully for the new camera and have experimented several nights taking images of Jupiter. I have a fair image on my website www.astronomy-leelanau.blogspot.com but I know my equipment is capable of much better imaging. I am intrigued by Registax, but I need help in moving from my second pic to a much clearer image. I also would like a good DSO to attempt a picture of (preferably a galaxy). Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hey Ed. You might want to have one of the moderators move this to the beginning imaging forum, which it would -- I presume -- be seen by several others who've done some work with your particular equipment.  Welcome...

For a good DSO, how about the Andromeda Galaxy, M31. The only thing that I would think might be a problem would be the size. It's pretty big so you need to go wide to get the whole thing. Also, you might want to hit some globular clusters although stacking those might be more difficult. You'd probably have good luck with some nebula. How about the ring. It's in a good position for folks in the northern hemisphere.
What do some of the individual frames that you stacked look like? I'd think that you should be able to get a much better shot than that. You might want to try some different stacking methods.
