Nice work Timo.
You may want to change the design of the roof later on. I had the same clear plastic like yours, and my shed heated up really bad in the summer. In fact the plastic buckled. So what I did was put some white backed hardboard underneath to cut out the suns rays.
Worked a treat.

I need to take some pictures of the floor of my observatory, i did the same thing, i wanted to avoid have a permenit concrete peir, instead of the legs going to the ground i cut the holes in the flooring and placed 5 20lbs pavers underneath the floor at all three legs, mostly due to the fact that without them the mount sits close to the floor, and it kinda keeps little critters from crawling up the mount, nice job on your roll-off!

Thanks all for your kind comments and suggestions
The snow issue is really an interesting one - and the overheating is also an issue. Therefore I kinda tried to compromise with the both issues letting the roof breathe a bit. - One can also install some air conditioning through ventilators on the walls.

I would agree with the change of the roof.
When visible light enters an enclosure and stikes a surface, it is reemitted as a lower wavelength..in this case infrared...that is why interiors of cars can get so much hotter than the outside temperature.
The translucent ceiling is a nice feature...perhaps you can place vents at the top of the walls and have the best of both worlds.
I too really like the way you did the tripod/floor installation. I will likely copy it for a portable observatory that is in works. ;<)

Maybe he wants to grow tomatoes too! That would make the structure much more versatile!
All kidding aside, that is a really great looking obsersvatory!
I didn't think about the hot-house effect of the roof when I first looked at it. My first thought was "wow, it has to be a LOT easier to work in there during the daylight hours because of all the light!"
I wonder how hot it will really get, since he's in Finland? (Sadly probably not as hot as the typical interior temperature during the summer of my rather opaque dome in Oklahoma!)
I also liked the way the tripod was installed. That's such a simple, but brilliant, solution.

Hi, thanks again for your comments!
Yes - the weather here in Finland permits trading between transparent roof and overheating. The bigger problem is the snow (occasionally), but the transparent plastic roof also warms in a manner it keeps the hut rather dry and ventilated while giving the snow a quick taste of Earth gravity every now and then (altough some assisting is needed).
Tomatoes - that is a fantastic idea BTW

Hi all!
First winter for the MoonHut has well passed. - Currently we have some 22 degrees (Celsius) above zero, so I'm seriously considering to plant some tomatoes into the Hut. Believe me: it is HOT in there!
Anyhow, had pretty interesting weather during the fall and winter months, with lots of moisture, clouds and fog. For almost three months during the fall it was actually almost impossible to observe anything!
As January came, we eventually got pretty decent snowfall and temperatures well below zero (about - 20 in Celsius). Then my mount froze, so... managed to grow some patience, which never hurts
The roof of the Hut did pretty well in clearing the snow by the mere force of gravity, temperature permitting (see the pic).
Moisture was a bit problematic, as it formed droplets of condensed water onto the inside of the roof, eventually dropping onto the floor, forming tiny puddles every now and then ...
No snow ever came into the Hut, even there were some pretty decent snowstorms there. Nor did the winds blow the roof off. - Just some dry Maple leaves found their way in, but -hey - what's a Hut without some dry leaves crackling on your feet, as the crisp Sun - almost asleep - tries to manage the short path through the fall skies...

... assembled today a winch to lift the roof more easily (see the pic - the winch is on the North side).
The winch seems to work pretty well. Some adjustments still have to be made, as the batten of the roof runs pretty low and occasionally tends to restrain the movement of the roof a bit.
The winch also provides locking of the roof when the roof is closed.
Be well all!
